Belfast Thanksgiving Square Beacon

At 19.5 metres high, this figurative icon is one of the tallest artworks in the U.K. She is sited beside the River Lagan in the centre of Belfast, Northern Ireland and is symbolic of the renaissance of the city. She spirals upwards and holds aloft the “ring of thanksgiving”.

The globe at her feet indicates the universal philosophy of peace, harmony and thanksgiving and has marked on its surface the cities where the people and industries of Belfast migrated and exported to.

Her image has been used on countless promotions for the city of Belfast and has featured, for example, on stamps, civic banners, the logo for a local football team and tourism advertising.

Known locally by several titles such as “Angel of Harmony” and “Angel of Thanksgiving”, she has become a much loved icon for Belfast and was recently voted most popular public art work in Ulster.
